Our office has five care providers, Dr. Glen Lovelace, Dr. Jennifer Hudson, Angela Latta, our Nurse Practitioner, and our Certified Nurse Midwives, Kristi Rhodes and Megan Kitterman. You may be wondering which person you should be seeing. Much depends on your reason for making this appointment.
- If you are healthy and need an annual exam, you can choose to see any of our providers.
- If you are pregnant, or wishing to become pregnant, and desire the Midwifery model of care, our Certified Nurse-Midwives may be right for you.
- If you are experiencing symptoms such as painful menses, excessive bleeding, or wish to explore your options related to family planning, you may want to meet with our Nurse Practitioner.
- If you would like to discuss options for the surgical management of your gynecologic concerns, or desire traditional obstetrical care during your pregnancy and birth, Dr. Lovelace would be the best provider for you.
- Dr. Hudson is a great mix of all the above. She can help with a broad spectrum of women's health issues, preventative care, family planning/contraception and fertility support, traditional and functional prenatal care, and surgical treatment of gynecologic conditions.
The section below explains how each of our providers may be of help to you.
Dr. Lovelace's philosophy of patient care:
I've delivered thousands of babies in Boise over these last 24 years, and I still look forward to meeting each new family and providing the highest level of obstetrical care. I'm committed to being present for each family and plan my year around my patients' delivery schedule. I'm a firm believer that pregnancy is a normal, natural process, and my goal is to help each patient deliver a healthy baby. I have one of the lowest cesarean section rates in this region, and am very willing to wait patiently! I am also happy to work with patients who have already had a cesarean section to attempt a vaginal delivery (VBAC).
Some pregnancies result in more complex situations like multiple births, a history of complications, health issues for the mother or baby, and so on. I welcome these patients and have years of experience and strong training in all aspects of pregnancy and childbirth.
Gynecologic surgery is the other highly-rewarding part of my practice. Child-bearing and normal aging can result in changes to the body that impact activity and health. Issues such as excessive bleeding or urinary incontinence can have a hugely negative impact on quality of life, and sometimes surgery is the best option for regaining health. Undergoing surgery is a big decision, but improvements in technique have simplified recovery for many patients.
In 2005 my partner and I pioneered laparoscopic surgical technique in Idaho. Prior to this time, hysterectomies were always an open surgery involving many weeks of recovery. Those days are gone. Commonly, our patients can leave the hospital on the day of surgery and return to normal activity within days. If you are experiencing problems that you think may be treated surgically, I welcome a visit with you. Our Resources page also provides links to good information about these procedures.
I am looking forward to having you meet our team of practitioners and invite you to read about Dr. Jennifer Hudson, Angela Latta, our Nurse Practitioner, and Kristi Rhodes and Megan Kitterman, our Certified Nurse-Midwives.
Jennifer Hudson, shares her love for women's health:
My love for Women's Health started in my undergraduate studies when I engaged in a volunteer program at a local hospital, seeing my first birth on Labor & Delivery. I never looked back! I had the unique opportunity to train in both a busy downtown hospital and a military medical facility which afforded me experience in both low + high risk obstetrics and gynecologic surgery in a wide variety of patient populations. Once on my own, I realized there was this whole realm of optimal health and balance that was not being focused on in the conventional medical model and decided to marry conventional and functional medicine. I completed both the Kresser Institute's ADAPT Framework Level One course and all advanced practice modules for certification through the Institute of Functional Medicine. It is a joy to serve the women and families in our community using a whole-person and more integrative approach to health and wellness! My favorite clinical interests include fertility, natural birth, lactation, family planning, and minimally-invasive gynecologic surgery. I boast an extremely low cesarean rate and love partnering with local birth workers to foster the beautiful process of childbirth in a hospital. I see both low and high risk pregnancies, and have privileges at St. Luke's Boise alongside my office colleagues.
Angela Latta, our Nurse Practitioner, talks about her practice:
I began my nursing career in 1994 at St. Luke's Hospital in Boise, ID. The entire focus and passion of my nursing career has been on the amazing process of caring for women in labor and delivery. Besides being at the bedside of thousands of women, I've also worked as a member of the high risk maternal transport team and was the Designated charge nurse for many years. In 2012 I graduated from Gonzaga University with my MSN as a family nurse practitioner. As a Nurse Practitioner I now have the opportunity to provide care for women far beyond my expertise in the birth process. I enjoy meeting women at all stages of life. I am very fortunate to partner with Dr. Lovelace as his surgical assistant in the OR as well as in our office.
In this practice I can:
- Perform annual exams, including first time GYN exams
- Diagnose and manage infertility problems
- Provide menopause symptom management
- Assist with management of pregnancy
- IUD placement with ultrasound guidance in all ages
- All forms of birth control
- Management and treatment of heavy and painful period
Our Certified Nurse-Midwives share their philosophy on birth:
“It is said that women in labor leave their bodies…They travel to the stars to collect the souls of their babies, and return to this world together” – Anonymous.
We love this quote because it describes childbirth as a journey. We believe that women and families are strengthened through positive birth experiences, and we are here to walk the journey with you. Nurse-Midwives view pregnancy and birth as a normal part of a woman’s life, and throughout your pregnancy, we encourage you to become the expert in your body. Our goal is to empower you and your family by providing care options and guidance that help you to make informed decisions, and to feel respected and safe.
A common misconception that many women have is that it is not possible to have a natural birth in the hospital. Nothing could be further from the truth! In labor, we encourage you to move freely, listen to your body, and birth in a position that feels right. We also encourage you to wear your own clothes, eat and drink as desired, and utilize non-medical techniques for coping. In the same regard, we support your right to have the birth you desire, and we are happy to help you manage your labor with nitrous oxide gas, IV pain medication, and/or an epidural.
From preconception, pregnancy, and birth, to postpartum, well-woman care, and menopause, midwifery care is about meeting women where they are, and helping them reach optimal health through education, collaboration, and support! It is also important to know that midwives work in collaboration with doctors, and there may be times in your pregnancy or birth where care may overlap. When Dr. Lovelace's medical expertise is appropriate, we consult with him. This can arise in both pregnancy and during childbirth. In this sense, you can have the best of both worlds. We are a birth team dedicated to helping you achieve the birth you desire!
We are compassionate midwives who get to know you and your story. We get to know our clients personally and oversee their whole journey from pregnancy to labor, to transitioning to parenthood. We take pride in transforming results for mothers and babies.
There are few moments in life that matter more than the birth of a child.
